Common Asked Richmond Football Questions

This is the central point to answer all the Richmond Football Club questions that I get emailled, or that are asked on other forum sites. Your welcome to send a question- or an answer- to rhettrospective@hotmail.com

----------------------------------

WHEN WAS THE RICHMOND FOOTBALL CLUB FORMED?

The club was formed on February 20th 1885 at the Royal Hotel.
That hotel is still situated directly across from the Punt Road Ground.

WAS THE CLUB EVER CALLED 'THE WASPS'

The reference to the Wasp was a passing reference made in a local Richmond paper in the early 1900's.
At no stage did Richmond adopt that moniker.

WHO WROTE THE RICHMOND THEMESONG AND WHAT IS THE TUNE?

Jack Malcomson wrote the themesong. He was a local cabaret singer. The song is based on the tune Row Row Row

WHAT IS THE CORRECT LYRIC TO THE RICHMOND THEMESONG- 'RISKING HEAD AND SHIN/SKIN'

The correct lyric is risking head and shin - as originally written in 1962.
Coincidentally, the RFC Website lists it incorrectly as 'head and skin'

WHO WORE THE NUMER 29 BEFORE KEVIN BARTLETT?

Mr Rodney Evans wore the guernsey from 1963-1964 for 11 games

DID A MR ALEXANDER MITCHELL MCKINLAY EVER PLAY FOR RICHMOND?
There is no record of Mr McKinlay playing Senior Football in the VFL for Richmond, or in the VFA (pre 1908).
If he did try out for Richmond, it has not been documented in the Minute Books.
The best bet is to search newspapers of the time for any reference.

I know somebody, William (Will) Pulbrook, who says he played 23 senior games for Richmond I guess around mid-late 80's. I checked your list and it doesn't seem like he is on it.

My search shows Mr Pulbrook did not play Senior football with the Richmond Football club. He may have played Reserves or Under 19's football with the club, however I would require a specific year from you to search for that information.
